The 51st Annual Meeting of the Taiwanese Dermatological Association (TDA) has successfully concluded.

This year, our Center Director, Dr. Chau Yee Ng, MD, PhD, was highly honored to be invited as a co-chair for the "Pigmentary Disorders Session" alongside Professor Cheng-Che Lan from Kaohsiung Medical University. The session featured a distinguished lineup of international experts, including Prof. Itefat Hamzavi (USA), Prof. Marwa Abdallah (Egypt), and Prof. Jung Min Bae (Korea), who joined us to share cutting-edge perspectives on vitiligo treatment.

Focusing on Local Data: Efficacy of JAK Inhibitors

During the session, international scholars provided deep insights into clinical challenges, ranging from the psychological impact of vitiligo and holistic care to the complexities of drug-induced vitiligo.

Representing our team, Dr. Ng presented real-world clinical experiences regarding the use of FDA-approved topical JAK inhibitors in Taiwan. She analyzed treatment data from nearly 100 patients with various types of vitiligo, offering a detailed assessment of efficacy and safety specific to Taiwanese skin types. Furthermore, Dr. Ng discussed the future landscape of vitiligo management, including the development of oral JAK inhibitors and novel biologics. This report not only fills a critical gap in local data but also serves as a valuable practical guide for clinical dermatologists.

A Legacy of Excellence: Young Team Members Shine

In addition to Dr. Ng’s presentation, the center’s young physicians demonstrated solid research capabilities and delivered outstanding reports:

  • Dr. Hsin-Yu Shih presented a comprehensive 10-year follow-up study. Her analysis covered over 900 patients, evaluating the long-term stability of disease control across different treatment strategies, including oral medications, phototherapy, topical agents, and combination therapies.

  • Dr. Sheng-Ni Chen reported on the safety of aesthetic and laser procedures for patients with vitiligo, providing crucial safety references for dermatologists performing cosmetic treatments on this specific patient group.

Cultural Diplomacy: Showcasing the Beauty of Taiwan

Beyond the scientific exchange, Dr. Ng also took pleasure in hosting our international guests and introducing them to the beauty of Taipei. From the historical treasures of the National Palace Museum and the tea culture of Dihua Street to the grandeur of the Grand Hotel and Liberty Square, the guests were immersed in Taiwan’s rich heritage and warm hospitality.

We extend our special gratitude to Chief Resident Dr. Po-Chien Wu and Dr. Hsin-Yu Shih for their assistance, helping to bring this journey of medicine and culture to a perfect conclusion.
